How to Apply for an Iran Visa
You can apply for an Iranian visa through one of the following three methods:
1. Direct Visa Applications
You may apply directly at an Iranian consulate, though many consulates require a visa approval (or visa grant notice) from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) before issuing a visa. This approval can be obtained via an authorized travel agency such as iraniantours.com or through the MFA’s online visa portal.
If you qualify for a visa on arrival, you can travel to Iran and get your visa processed at the airport. However, there is a risk of visa refusal and deportation without prior approval, and most airlines will require a visa or visa approval before allowing you to board a flight to Iran.
2. Through the Government eVisa Portal
In 2017, the Iranian government launched an online platform for submitting and processing visa applications. Applications through this system result in visa approvals, known as visa grant notices. You need to present this document at an Iranian consulate or upon arrival at the airport to receive your visa.
However, the system has a high refusal rate, and many applicants face long waiting periods without a response. Since 2020, the platform has been plagued by responsiveness issues, causing further delays.
3. Through an Agency
For a nominal fee, you can have an accredited Iranian travel agency, like us, handle the visa application process for you. The agency acts as your sponsor, ensuring that your application meets the MFA’s requirements. Using a reputable agency increases the chances of a successful application and speeds up the visa issuance process.
