Iran Visa for US Passport Holders
US citizens require a visa to enter Iran. Unlike many other nationalities, there is no Visa on Arrival option available for US passport holders.
Obtaining an Iranian Visa for US Citizens
To obtain an Iranian visa, you must follow these steps:
- Obtain a Visa Grant Notice: This is a mandatory document required before applying for the visa at an Iranian consulate. You can apply for the Visa Grant Notice through our service for a fee of €95, with processing times of 6-8 weeks. An urgent service is available for €135 with a processing time of 3-6 weeks.
- Prepare Required Documents: In addition to the Visa Grant Notice, you’ll need other documents such as a valid passport, passport photos, and a confirmed travel itinerary with a licensed Iranian tour guide.
- Apply at an Iranian Consulate: Visit the nearest Iranian consulate to your location with all required documents. There’s a visa fee of €60 payable at the consulate. Be prepared for potential additional fees for urgent visa processing.
Important Notes
- Pre-Arranged Itinerary and Tour Guide: US citizens must have a pre-arranged travel itinerary and be accompanied by an authorized Iranian tour guide throughout their visit.
- Muslim Exemption: If you have a Muslim name in your passport, there’s a possibility that the tour guide requirement might be waived as your trip could be classified as a pilgrimage.
- No Visa Stamp: Iran does not issue visa stamps in passports for US citizens. Instead, you will receive a paper visa upon collection. Keep this paper safe until you leave Iran.
